What is Family Practice?

Family Practice is the medical specialty which provides continuing and comprehensive health care for each member of the family. A family physician is a doctor who is educated and residency trained to provide medical care for any patient, regardless of race, sex or age. The specialty of family practice requires a medical degree from an accredited medical school; a degree from an accredited three year family practice residency program; certification examination from the American Board of Family Practice, with re-certification exam every seven years, and 150 hours of continuing medical education every three years.
